VEDA HILLE

A couple of years back, esteemed Vancouver songwriter Veda Hille was passing through a time of trial when she decided to do what a lot of people do during tough periods: she turned to the scriptures. Unlike many people though, Hille didn't find closure by finding Jesus.  Instead, she found the muse that has inspired her most ambitious record yet: an interpretation of ecstatic religious music channeled through Hille's singular creative lens.  

This Riot Life

Recorded with a 12 piece band and guest vocalists, This Riot Life is an at-times gigantic sounding aural collage of religious music's most uplifting components - simple hymns, angelic harmonies, brass fanfares, soaring crescendos and even some moments of tent-revival intensity - all knitted together using Hille's distinctive compositional trademarks - borrowed melodies and melody fragments, lyrics adopted from unrelated contexts, dissonant note combinations and eclectic instrumentation.
