BEDUIN JERRY CAN BAND
Bedouin Jerry Can Band (BJB) are semi-nomadic musicians, poets, storytellers and coffee grinders from the Egyptian Sinai desert. The group blend Simsimiyya (a traditional Egyptian lyre) melodies with desert flutes and reed pipes, augmented by ammunition boxes & jerry cans scavenged from the former battlegrounds of the Six-day War of 1967.

Blending Simsimiyya (a traditional 5-string Egyptian lyre) with desert flutes and reed pipes, BJB perform traditional Bedouin melodies with infectious rhythms on tablas, frame drums and clay jugs, augmented by ammunition boxes & jerry cans scavenged from the former battlegrounds of the Six-day War of 1967 and the subsequent Israeli occupation of Sinai.
BJB’s debut album Coffee Time follows recent UK activity including a live session for R3’s World Routes and London appearances at the Union Chapel and Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology. The CD additionally features guest vocals on three tracks by Port Said veterans and fellow Simsimiyya champions El Tanbura.
